A new niece and cousin to dote upon...

Baby Adley was born at 12:13 pm in Fairhope, Alabama, on Thursday, January 21.  Adley Morgan Howell is the daughter of Tressie (my beautiful sister) and Joseph Howell of Daphne, Alabama.  Adley was 5 lbs 12 oz and 18 1/4 inches on arrival.  She reminds me so much of Oliver, when he was small.  She is a healthy, beautiful little girl!  I couldn't be a prouder aunt and Oliver could not be a prouder cousin...  Although, we have kidded that we think Oliver enjoyed meeting Nigel, just as much, but Nigel was able to play and Adley is not quite there yet.  Oliver was very gentle with Adley and minded how small and delicate she is.
We are so excited to be reprising the roles of Auntie Em, Uncle Sam, and Cousin Oliver!

Put me in Coach...

Oliver is in 1st grade, which means that he is old enough to play Upward Basketball.  Upward is a wonderful approach to teaching children about God and growing them in a firm
foundation.  Oliver is so much fun to watch out there!  He has learned how to dribble and loves running up and down the court.  He is learning the game and seems to like it much more than baseball, which is a relief to Sam and me. Hopefully, we can get over to Oxford a couple of times more to see our Ole Miss Rebels shoot some hoops...

My son is #13!

Getting to know you, getting to know all about you... Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me...

Here we are. Our first blog. How exciting! On behalf of my family, I am delighted to share with you our lives, as only we can tell it. This is the story of the great Gibbsy. Gibbsy is the nickname that I have called Sam for about thirteen years now. Sam is my wonderful husband of 9 1/2 years. I am Emily, wife and mother, among other titles. We have one son, Oliver. We live in northern Mississippi, in a small town called Pontotoc, which is situated between Oxford (the best place on earth) and Tupelo (birthplace of Elvis Presley). Sam is a network analyst for the North Mississippi Medical Center and I spend my time as a product engineer for Ashley Furniture Industries. Oliver is 5 1/2 years old and enjoys attending the Pontotoc Elementary School's kindergarten.

We have just entered the year 2009 and plan for it to be a stellar year. We have many plans and dreams for this year. As this year unfolds, I hope to share our dreams as they manifest themselves and our modest achievements as they occur. First off, we are in the middle of a complete renovation of our master bathroom. We gutted the entire area (down to the studs). Gibbsy, himself, is manning this project. I am doing the hard work. You know, making the style choices and supervising. Gibbsy has it under control, though. He amazes me all the time. Just when I think we will have to call someone (a professional), he proves me wrong and that is okay.

Oliver heads back to school tomorrow and, thus, we start the second semester of his kindergarten year. He has just finished his first stint of piano recitals. He and I played Jingle Bells in a piano extravaganza sponsored by the Pontotoc Music Study Club. There were three performances of the event. Oliver came through with flying colors. No stage fright... I am so proud of him. Hopefully, we will share the love of the piano as a binding element forever.
